Your Modern-bohemian Hideaway on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast
Hotel Aguas Claras in Puerto Viejo de Limón is an artistically curated collection of tropical bungalows and suites, tucked within two acres of lush gardens and just steps from the soft sand, clear water and coral reefs of Playa Chiquita. Untouched by the development of the Pacific Coast, Costa Rica’s southern Caribbean is where local Ticos go for an authentic beach holiday. The area is beloved for its laid-back vibe, crystal clear seas, vibrant nature and influence from Afro-Caribbean and indigenous cultures. In 2014 renowned Costa Rican artists Elizabeth Steinvorth and her daughter Elena purchased a group of older beach cottages in Puerto Viejo and began meticulous renovations, focused on using reclaimed materials, highlighting the natural surroundings and collaborations with local artists and makers. Opened in 2018 Hotel Aguas Claras is an expression of their creativity and love of place. The collection of bungalows and suites is a mix of Victorian architecture, tropical colors, original art pieces and mid-century modern accents for an experience that is as fun and whimsical as it is comfortable. A brief stroll down a forested lane leads guests to the hotel’s Da Lime beach club and Playa Chiquita. The property is a 10 minute bike pedal from the restaurants & shops of Puerto Viejo. Black, gold and white sand beaches dot the surrounding coast, offering multiple locations to surf, swim or snorke
